DON'T be intimidated by claims that DIR/Floortime is not evidenced-based. DIR/Floortime IS scientifically validated in peer-reviewed research.
Contact your health insurance: they are required by law to pay for behavioral health treatment for autism in California and many other states as well.
Contact your Regional Center service coordinator. Regional Centers do vary in their coverage for DIR/Floortime. Document all correspondence with your regional center.
You may find a provider through the resources on our For Parents page or the provider DIRectory at ICDL.com. If you are not getting a response, partner with our Coalition to advocate for parent choice in your situation.
A private assessment by a psychologist or physician with a diagnosis of autism and a specific recommendation for DIR or Floortime for your child will support your advocacy efforts.
Private paying or using regular insurance funding for some parent training in DIR/Floortime may be an affordable option to consider for your family while you are advocating for ongoing funding support.
Perseverance is essential: You are your child’s strongest advocate. Stand up and get help to fight it when companies or agencies try to discourage you.
